# MobilePay for Business: How It Works, How to Accept It and What to Expect

A business with a Danish, Finnish or Norwegian organisation number accepts MobilePay through Vipps MobilePay or a connected provider, with settlement within one working day by default, verified October 2026.

## Key takeaways

- MobilePay is the Vipps MobilePay wallet that Danish and Finnish customers pay with, and its name changes to Vipps on 12 January 2027.
- MobilePay had 4.7 million users in Denmark at the turn of 2025 to 2026.
- A MobilePay customer approves the payment in their own app with a PIN or biometric, and settlement is within one working day unless the contract says otherwise.
- MobilePay access requires a Danish, Finnish or Norwegian organisation number and a business bank account in the same country.
- MobilePay’s standard tier charges 0.59 per cent plus DKK 1 for online and recurring payments, moving to 0.89 per cent plus DKK 1 on 1 January 2027.
- MobilePay merchants can refund for up to 365 days after capture, while merchant-side dispute timelines are not published.

## What is MobilePay?

MobilePay is a mobile wallet that lets customers in Denmark and Finland pay businesses by approving the payment in the app, and MobilePay Erhverv, the Danish search name for MobilePay for business, is the merchant side of that wallet. The wallet first launched in Denmark in May 2013 ([MobilePay news post on its record 2025](https://mobilepay.dk/news/2025-blev-rekordernes-ar-hos-mobilepay)).

In Norway and Sweden customers use the Vipps app, and the two apps work across borders. The [Vipps MobilePay developer docs on selling across the Nordics](https://developer.vippsmobilepay.com/docs/knowledge-base/across-borders/) state that Norwegian and Swedish users pay Danish and Finnish merchants with Vipps, while Danish and Finnish users pay Norwegian merchants with MobilePay. MobilePay changes its name to Vipps on 12 January 2027 ([nævn.dk guide Snydt på MobilePay](https://www.xn--nvn-yla.dk/guide/mobilepay-svindel)).

Both apps belong to Vipps MobilePay, the group formed after the [EU Commission approved the merger of MobilePay and Vipps](https://thepaypers.com/payments/news/eu-commission-approves-merger-of-mobilepay-and-vipps); it was expected to start on 1 November 2022, headquartered in Oslo under supervision by the Norwegian Financial Supervisory Authorities. A business registered in Denmark therefore contracts with Vipps MobilePay AS, filial af Vipps MobilePay AS, Norge (CVR number 43300946), the Danish branch, not with the app ([Vipps MobilePay business terms](https://vippsmobilepay.com/en-NO/terms-and-conditions)).

## Why MobilePay matters for businesses selling in Denmark

MobilePay had 4.7 million users in Denmark at the turn of 2025 to 2026, and MobilePay users made 603 million transactions in Denmark in 2025 ([MobilePay’s 2025 review](https://mobilepay.dk/indsigt-udsyn-2025)), worth over DKK 239 billion. Use averaged 1.7 million transactions a day in 2025, up 5.4% on 2024, and MobilePay’s e-commerce products, meaning payment online, grew 13.3% during 2025. All of these are MobilePay’s own figures.

![MobilePay in Denmark in 2025, from MobilePay's year-end review.](https://cdn.unlimit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/29165541/mobilepay-business-image-1.webp)*MobilePay in Denmark in 2025, from MobilePay’s year-end review.*

Online shoppers lean the same way: about half of citizens prefer to use MobilePay when paying in online shopping, in [Danmarks Nationalbank’s 2026 analysis of mobile payments](https://www.nationalbanken.dk/da/viden-og-nyheder/publikationer-og-taler/analyse/2026/danskerne-betaler-mere-med-mobilen). A checkout for customers in Denmark without MobilePay leaves out a wallet a large share of them already use.

## How MobilePay works

A MobilePay payment follows one path: the business offers MobilePay at checkout, the customer receives a payment request in the app and approves it with a PIN or biometric, the payment is made from a saved card or linked bank account, Vipps MobilePay or the connected provider confirms it to the business, and the funds settle to the merchant’s account later.

### The customer flow, step by step

The Mastercard Gateway, one provider that offers MobilePay, runs a MobilePay payment in five steps; the flow can differ by provider.

- The customer chooses MobilePay at checkout.
- The customer enters the registered mobile number and receives a payment request in the MobilePay app ([Mastercard Gateway documentation for Vipps MobilePay](https://suncorp.gateway.mastercard.com/api/documentation/integrationGuidelines/supportedFeatures/pickPaymentMethod/browserPayments/vippsMobilePay.html)).
- The customer checks the details and approves or declines the request with a PIN or biometric.
- The payment is made from a saved card or linked bank account in the app.
- The customer approves the payment within its 10-minute validity period.

![How a MobilePay payment moves from checkout to the business's account, from Vipps MobilePay's documentation.](https://cdn.unlimit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/29165547/mobilepay-business-image-2.webp)*How a MobilePay payment moves from checkout to the business’s account, from Vipps MobilePay’s documentation.*

### What happens on the merchant side

On the merchant side, a MobilePay order stays pending until Vipps MobilePay or the connected provider confirms the payment. The business fulfils on that confirmation, never on what the customer’s screen shows. A business that takes MobilePay through Unlimit gets a [real-time callback](https://integration.unlimit.com/doc-guides/vejut2c18ng0y-p-payment-link) per payment; MobilePay conditions are discussed with each business.

Confirmation and settlement are two separate events. Unless the contract says otherwise, the operator settles payments to the merchant’s settlement account within one working day after receiving the funds, and the merchant chooses daily, weekly or monthly payout in the business portal ([Vipps MobilePay Help article on payout intervals](https://help.vippsmobilepay.com/en-NO/articles/change-payment-interval)). Settlement can be postponed for justified reasons, including a dispute or fraud investigation or a breach of the merchant agreement.

Matching each payment to its transaction reference and order ID keeps a late confirmation or a refund on the right order. The timing of that confirmation differs between providers and is set in each provider’s terms.

## Ways to accept MobilePay: APIs, payment links, in store and recurring

A business accepts MobilePay through Vipps MobilePay or a PSP connected to it, and the customer authorises the payment inside their own app ([Ecomstream’s guide to MobilePay](https://www.ecomstream.eu/payment-methods/what-is-mobilepay/)).

### Online payments through APIs and PSPs

For online sales, Vipps MobilePay for business runs on three APIs: users in all Nordic markets pay merchants through the ePayment and Recurring APIs and log in through the Login API. A PSP such as the Mastercard Gateway offers Direct Payment, which lets the merchant offer MobilePay on its own checkout page.

Unlimit carries MobilePay among 1,000+ local methods on [one REST API](https://www.unlimit.com/payment-processing/), alongside cards, payouts and payment links. Adyen offers MobilePay for customers in Denmark and Finland through its Drop-in and Components for web, iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter, or through an API-only integration ([Adyen’s MobilePay integration guide](https://docs.adyen.com/payment-methods/mobilepay)).

The redirect setup opens the correct app for each user, and universal links and deep links can open either the Vipps or the MobilePay app. Trying to detect which app is installed is advised against, because it can block users of the other app. A merchant selling in several Nordic markets shows both the Vipps and MobilePay buttons so customers with either app can pay, since users can pay any Nordic merchant, whichever region they are in.

Away from the online checkout, the other MobilePay solutions are payment links for remote sales, and a MobilePay number or mobile point of sale lets a shop receive payments in store.

## Benefits of accepting MobilePay

Accepting MobilePay brings three benefits, each with a limit.

- Reach: MobilePay took about 21% of 2025 payments in supermarket, parking and other apps ([Danmarks Nationalbank](https://www.nationalbanken.dk/da/viden-og-nyheder/publikationer-og-taler/analyse/2026/danskerne-betaler-mere-med-mobilen)). The limit: only 3% of Danes preferred to pay with MobilePay in physical stores in 2025 ([Danmarks Nationalbank](https://www.nationalbanken.dk/da/viden-og-nyheder/publikationer-og-taler/analyse/2026/danskerne-betaler-mere-med-mobilen)).
- Nordic customers on one setup: customers using MobilePay or Vipps can both pay a Danish merchant, so shoppers paying with MobilePay abroad, in Finland, reach the same checkout. The limit: a merchant selling in several markets shows both the Vipps and MobilePay buttons.
- Control over payout timing: the merchant picks daily, weekly or monthly payout. The limit: the operator may postpone settlement for justified reasons.

## Limitations to plan for before you accept MobilePay

MobilePay comes with three constraints a business designs around: how money goes back and how disputes run, the time limits and payment rules, and who can apply.

### Refunds, complaints and disputes

A MobilePay refund is issued by the merchant, while a dispute runs through MobilePay or the customer’s bank, depending on how the customer paid.

Merchants can refund all or part of a captured amount for up to 365 days after capture ([Vipps MobilePay developer docs on refunds](https://developer.vippsmobilepay.com/docs/knowledge-base/refund)). The money usually reaches the customer within 2 to 3 bank days, but can take up to 10 days depending on the bank.

In Denmark, Finland and Greenland the money goes to the receiving account set in the app, which may differ from the account or card used for the payment. The merchant refunds in the business portal or from its own system by API ([Vipps MobilePay Help article on refunds](https://help.vippsmobilepay.com/en-NO/articles/how-to-make-a-refund)).

### Complaints and objections

A customer who suspects fraud at a webshop and cannot reach it files an objection (indsigelse) with MobilePay when the in-app receipt says Betalt med MobilePay ([Vipps MobilePay Help page on complaints](https://help.vippsmobilepay.com/da-DK/complaints)). That route covers only the webshop solution, not transfers to a MobilePay number.

When the customer paid with a card in the app, the card terms apply: the customer goes to their bank, then to Det finansielle ankenævn if a Danish bank refuses. [The Consumer Ombudsman’s guidance on payment objections](https://forbrugerombudsmanden.dk/alle-emner/betalinger/indsigelser-mod-betalinger) says a consumer can require the bank to return the money at once by lodging an objection with it.

Mastercard Gateway’s transaction details for Vipps MobilePay show chargeback as not applicable. The operator does not publish merchant-side dispute timelines. Online, MobilePay payments run mostly as card payments rather than instant payments ([Danmarks Nationalbank](https://www.nationalbanken.dk/da/viden-og-nyheder/publikationer-og-taler/analyse/2026/danskerne-betaler-mere-med-mobilen)). Unlimit’s [Card methods integration guide](https://integration.unlimit.com/doc-guides/ci8k5zm86k3ny-card-methods) omits MobilePay, so refund terms are confirmed with the business, and Unlimit does not support recurring payments for alternative methods.

### Time limits and payment rules

MobilePay payments in Denmark and Finland run on shorter payment time limits than other Nordic markets, and some other rules differ. Briqpay, one provider that offers MobilePay, requires a MobilePay payment in Denmark or Finland to be captured within 14 days, or the reservation expires and the customer is not charged ([Briqpay’s Vipps and MobilePay setup guide](https://briqpay.com/blog/how-to-add-vipps-and-mobile-pay-to-woo-commerce-2026-setup-guide)).

Orders are captured or cancelled well inside these limits, including any limit the provider sets. Mollie times out a MobilePay payment session after 10 minutes ([Mollie’s MobilePay payment method page](https://docs.mollie.com/docs/mobilepay)).

Unless the contract says otherwise, in-store payment solutions may only be used for payers who are physically present in the merchant’s place of business. Unlimit offers no in-store acceptance, so MobilePay at the counter stays with its own tools, such as a MobilePay number or mobile point of sale ([payment processing page](https://www.unlimit.com/payment-processing/)).

Vipps MobilePay does not support splitting payments to charge a fee ([Vipps MobilePay developer docs on sales units](https://developer.vippsmobilepay.com/docs/knowledge-base/sales-units/)), so a marketplace takes its commission outside the payment. Payments for a sales unit registered in Denmark are in DKK, and amount limits vary by provider.

### Who can apply: organisation number and bank account

A business applying for MobilePay needs a registered business with a valid Danish, Finnish or Norwegian organisation number ([Vipps MobilePay developer docs on applying for services](https://developer.vippsmobilepay.com/docs/knowledge-base/applying-for-services/)) and a business bank account in the same country as its organisation. A Danish company therefore uses a Danish business account. The business terms require the merchant to register a local corporate bank account that it owns as its settlement account.

### Businesses based abroad

The sources checked do not say whether a company without a Danish, Finnish or Norwegian organisation number can open a merchant agreement. A business based abroad takes that question to Vipps MobilePay or a connected provider before planning around MobilePay.

Businesses that use Unlimit submit corporate documents when they join; whether a company without a Danish entity can accept MobilePay this way is discussed during onboarding ([payment processing page](https://www.unlimit.com/payment-processing/)). Stripe lists 29 European countries whose accounts can accept MobilePay payments, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden among them ([Stripe’s MobilePay business locations](https://docs.stripe.com/payments/mobilepay)).

## What MobilePay costs a business

MobilePay costs a business a fee on each transaction, and those MobilePay business fees are how MobilePay earns from merchants. The [Vipps MobilePay pricing page](https://vippsmobilepay.com/en-DK/pricing) sets three MobilePay prices for the standard business tier in Denmark:

- MobilePay number and mobile point of sale: 0.99 per cent per transaction.
- Payment integration for online and recurring payments: 0.59 per cent plus DKK 1 per transaction.
- Payment links for online remote sales: 1.49 per cent plus DKK 1 per transaction.

### Price changes and PSP fees

The payment integration price automatically changes to 0.89 per cent plus DKK 1 per transaction from 1 January 2027. This MobilePay for business pricing may vary when the merchant integrates through a partner, and a PSP may add its own charge, which belongs as a separate line in its contract.

Stripe, one provider that offers MobilePay, charges card processing fees plus the MobilePay transaction fee on each MobilePay payment, billed once a day. Businesses registered in Denmark also pay MobilePay’s fixed DKK 35 monthly membership fee ([Stripe’s MobilePay fees section](https://docs.stripe.com/payments/mobilepay)).

MobilePay fees on a DKK 500 order at the standard tier come to DKK 3.95 for payment integration, DKK 5.45 from 1 January 2027, DKK 4.95 for a MobilePay number or mobile point of sale, and DKK 8.45 for a payment link.

![MobilePay fee on a DKK 500 order by product, from Vipps MobilePay's pricing page.](https://cdn.unlimit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/29165553/mobilepay-business-image-3.webp)*MobilePay fee on a DKK 500 order by product, from Vipps MobilePay’s pricing page.*

Payment apps such as MobilePay, Apple Pay and Google Pay are linked to the customer’s payment card and are therefore covered by the ban on card fees ([Forbrugerrådet Tænk’s guide to payment fees](https://taenk.dk/privatoekonomi/gode-raad/gebyrer-paa-betalinger-hvornaar-er-de-ulovlige)).

## MobilePay vs Vipps

A merchant in Denmark gets MobilePay and Vipps as one acceptance route, with no extra logic needed to open the right app. The rename changes the brand customers see, not the integration. Unlimit lists MobilePay for Denmark and Vipps for Norway on its [Europe and UK coverage page](https://www.unlimit.com/coverage/europe-uk/europe-uk/).

MobilePay vs Vipps

| Attribute | MobilePay | Vipps |
|---|---|---|
| Customers who use the app | Denmark and Finland | Norway and Sweden |
| Merchants they can pay | Any Nordic merchant | Any Nordic merchant |
| Merchant APIs | ePayment, Recurring and Login | ePayment, Recurring and Login |
| What a redirect opens | The MobilePay app for Danish and Finnish users | The Vipps app for Norwegian and Swedish users |
| Brand from 12 January 2027 | Becomes Vipps | Vipps |

## How to accept MobilePay: a business checklist

To set up MobilePay for business, a merchant works through six steps in order.

- Choose the route to MobilePay: apply to Vipps MobilePay or to a PSP connected to it. Unlimit also lists direct bank payments from Danske Bank and Nordea ([Europe and UK coverage page](https://www.unlimit.com/coverage/europe-uk/europe-uk/)).
- Check that the business holds a Danish, Finnish or Norwegian organisation number and a business bank account in the same country.
- Apply with the organisation number and bank account ready, and plan the launch date around the processing time the provider gives.
- Add MobilePay to checkout with the redirect that opens the right app, and show both the Vipps and MobilePay buttons when selling in several markets.
- Keep orders pending until the provider confirms the payment, and confirm the payout interval, the refund route and the fee lines.
- Test paid, expired and refunded payments end to end before the business starts to receive payments from customers.

## How Unlimit supports MobilePay in Denmark

Danish businesses can accept MobilePay and cards, Dankort among them, through a single Unlimit integration ([Europe and UK coverage page](https://www.unlimit.com/coverage/europe-uk/europe-uk/)). In the EU, the provider operates through Unlimit EU Ltd, an electronic money institution authorised by the Central Bank of Cyprus ([Payment Institutions Register](https://paymentinstitutionsregister.eu/institution/cy/unlimit-eu-ltd-former-name-cardpay-ltd-1160)). MobilePay fees through Unlimit are quoted per business.

On [one REST API](https://www.unlimit.com/payment-processing/), Unlimit runs MobilePay alongside 1,000+ local payment methods in 200+ locations, with payment links and real-time callbacks; the MobilePay conditions, the refund terms and the settlement currency are agreed during onboarding, and Unlimit supports 50+ currencies. A business that also sells in Norway can add Vipps from the same Europe and UK coverage.

## FAQ

**Is MobilePay only for Danish businesses?**MobilePay is not for Danish businesses only: its operator, Vipps MobilePay, offers services to merchants in the Danish, Finnish and Norwegian markets, and MobilePay’s 2025 year-end review counts nearly 12.5 million active private users across the Nordics. A business still applies with an organisation number from one of those three countries.

**What are the minimum and maximum amounts for a MobilePay business payment?**A MobilePay business payment has no single published minimum or maximum: the amounts depend on how each merchant’s sales unit is configured. On a PSP route, the provider sets these limits in its own terms, as Mastercard Gateway’s documentation for Vipps MobilePay shows, so a merchant checks them with its provider or Vipps MobilePay before designing checkout for very small or high-value orders.

**How does MobilePay make money from businesses?**MobilePay makes money from businesses by charging per transaction: Vipps MobilePay’s business terms make transaction-based charges fall due when the merchant initiates collecting the payment from the payer’s funding source. The Login API is priced separately, and its entry tier, for 20 to 1,000 active users, costs DKK 195 per month excluding VAT.

**How long does Vipps MobilePay take to approve a business application?**Vipps MobilePay’s approval of a MobilePay Erhverv application typically takes up to 3 business days for in-person products, while online payment products may take up to a week. Plan the launch date around the longer online timeline, and have the organisation number and business bank account ready when you apply.

**Can a business offer MobilePay and Dankort through Unlimit?**Unlimit’s Europe and UK coverage page shows MobilePay as a digital wallet for Denmark and Dankort among the cards it covers there. A business that wants both can ask Unlimit about them; otherwise MobilePay reaches sellers through Vipps MobilePay or a connected PSP.
