# DANA for Business: How It Works, How to Accept It and What to Expect

Merchant DANA lets a business accept DANA and QRIS payments, with no QRIS MDR up to IDR 100,000 per order from 1 October 2026, verified October 2026.

## Key takeaways

- Merchant DANA is a service within the DANA app that lets businesses accept payments with DANA balance or QRIS.
- QRIS, the national QR standard, reached 44.9 million merchants in Indonesia by June 2026.
- Before fulfilment, check each payment’s status with the provider; Unlimit’s API, for example, lets a business query a payment by the ID in its callback ([Payments integration types](https://integration.unlimit.com/doc-guides/v396nzw6ayeza)).
- From 1 October 2026 the QRIS MDR is 0% up to IDR 100,000 for small, medium and large merchants and up to IDR 500,000 for micro merchants; a provider adds its own fees.
- A QRIS payment is capped at IDR 10 million per transaction, and refund rules differ by provider and rail.
- Starting means choosing a provider licensed by Bank Indonesia, passing onboarding, adding DANA at checkout and testing every payment outcome before the first live order.

## What is Merchant DANA?

Merchant DANA is a service within the DANA app that lets a business accept digital payments from customers who pay with DANA balance or QRIS. The service supports Bank Indonesia’s QRIS system ([OttoDigital, 15 May 2026](https://ottodigital.id/artikel/merchant-dana/)), and at Indomaret a customer taps ‘Tunjukkan QRIS’ in the app and the cashier scans the code ([Selular.ID](https://selular.id/2025/10/indomaret-resmi-terima-pembayaran-qris-via-aplikasi-dana/)).

### DANA and QRIS

DANA and QRIS are two different things. DANA is a digital wallet used for QR payments, money transfers, bill payments and mobile top-ups ([8B World](https://www.8b.world/payment-methods/dana)), while QRIS is the national QR standard. Because the wallet is integrated with the QRIS ecosystem, a QRIS DANA payment is a scan of a merchant’s standardised code from inside the app.

A DANA user can also pay with saved cards, e-wallet funds or dynamic QR codes. The customer pays from the app; the business receives the money through the merchant service and a provider. [Unlimit](https://integration.unlimit.com/doc-guides/ci8k5zm86k3ny-card-methods) processes DANA payments in IDR.

The DANA app is issued by PT Espay Debit Indonesia Koe and licensed by Bank Indonesia, as [IDX Channel reported on 30 April 2024](https://www.idxchannel.com/milenomic/inilah-limit-transfer-dana-per-hari-dan-rinciannya/all). As for a DANA merchant ID, a business is identified through its onboarding, either with DANA directly or with its provider.

## Why DANA matters for businesses selling in Indonesia

DANA matters because e-wallets now lead everyday payments in Indonesia, with GoPay, OVO, DANA and ShopeePay in front ([The Paypers](https://thepaypers.com/expert-opinion/indonesia-2025-analysis-of-payments-and-ecommerce-trends--1273421)). QRIS reached 44.9 million merchants in Indonesia by June 2026 ([IDXChannel’s report of 17 August 2026](https://www.rctiplus.com/news/detail/terkini/5453488/biaya-transaksi-qris-gratis-bagi-semua-merchant-mulai-1-oktober-2026)). In the first half of 2026 the standard recorded 12.6 billion transactions worth IDR 1.12 quadrillion, and the value of those payments grew 93.9% year on year.

Bank Indonesia reported that digital transaction volume reached 5.50 billion in July 2026, up 28.69 percent year on year, and that QRIS transaction volume grew 82.42 percent year on year, driven by rising numbers of users and merchants ([RRI.co.id report on Bank Indonesia’s digital payment figures](https://rri.co.id/en/business/2666318/bi-reports-strong-growth-in-indonesias-digital-payments)).

![QRIS and digital payments in Indonesia, from Bank Indonesia figures as reported by IDXChannel and RRI.co.id.](https://cdn.unlimit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/29165550/dana-merchant-image-1.webp)*QRIS and digital payments in Indonesia, from Bank Indonesia figures as reported by IDXChannel and RRI.co.id.*

A store selling to Indonesian customers without QRIS or DANA leaves out the methods that carry this volume.

## How DANA works

A DANA payment follows one path: the store offers DANA, the merchant’s server creates the payment, the customer authorises it in DANA, DANA tells the merchant’s server the result, and the business fulfils the order and is paid on its provider’s cycle.

### The customer flow, step by step

A DANA payment moves through six events:

- The customer chooses DANA at checkout.
- The merchant’s server creates the payment: DANA’s Mini Program platform creates the order through the payments/pay OpenAPI ([DANA Mini Program documentation, payment capability](https://mini-program.dana.id/docs/miniprogram_dana/mpdev/capability-payment)).
- The customer is sent to authorise: a mini program opens the wallet cashier page, with an experience similar to the native app, and the store then redirects the customer to the redirect link.
- The customer authorises the payment in DANA.
- The wallet server sends the order status to the DANA merchant’s server through the notifyPayment OpenAPI.
- The customer then returns to the merchant’s success or failure URL.

![How a DANA payment moves from checkout to the merchant, from DANA's Mini Program documentation.](https://cdn.unlimit.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/29165556/dana-merchant-image-2.webp)*How a DANA payment moves from checkout to the merchant, from DANA’s Mini Program documentation.*

### What happens on the merchant side

A DANA order stays pending until DANA’s Mini Program platform sends the order status to the merchant’s server through notifyPayment, and fulfilment starts on that status, never before ([DANA Mini Program documentation, payment capability](https://mini-program.dana.id/docs/miniprogram_dana/mpdev/capability-payment)). A business that takes DANA through [Unlimit](https://integration.unlimit.com/doc-guides/vejut2c18ng0y-p-payment-link) gets a real-time callback for each payment; DANA conditions and the settlement currency are confirmed with that business.

Confirmation and settlement are two separate events. A QRIS payment is processed in real time within seconds ([Selular.ID](https://selular.id/2025/10/indomaret-resmi-terima-pembayaran-qris-via-aplikasi-dana/)); the money arrives later, on the provider’s timing.

A payment can still fail or be refunded after the order exists, so each one is reconciled by its order ID and the provider’s reference, under the refund rules of its rail. Callback events, retry behaviour and the payout report differ by provider and are set in its integration terms.

## Ways to accept DANA: Mini Program, provider checkout and recurring payments

A business reaches Merchant DANA in two ways: on DANA’s Mini Program platform or through a payment provider, and the modes on offer vary from one provider to the next.

Adyen offers pre-built UI solutions for adding DANA to a website ([Adyen, DANA](https://docs.adyen.com/payment-methods/dana)). Airwallex settles DANA payments in currencies that depend on where the merchant is registered, such as SGD or USD for Singapore ([Airwallex, DANA](https://www.airwallex.com/docs/payments/payment-methods/apac/dana)).

Recurring billing exists too. Airwallex links the shopper’s DANA account once through a payment consent and then charges later payments without asking the shopper to authenticate again ([Airwallex, Accept Recurring Payments – DANA](https://www.airwallex.com/docs/payments/payment-methods/apac/dana/accept-recurring-payments-dana)). NICEPAY offers its E-Wallet Subscription feature for periodic bill payments only in the DANA application ([NICEPAY, E-Wallet Feature](https://docs.nicepay.co.id/en/e-wallet-feature)).

[Unlimit](https://integration.unlimit.com/doc-guides/ci8k5zm86k3ny-card-methods) offers no recurring payments for alternative methods; a business that takes DANA through Unlimit connects it through the payment page or the gateway.

## Benefits of accepting DANA

Accepting DANA gives a business three practical gains, each with a limit:

- Two payment routes in one service. QRIS volumes grew 175% year on year in 2024 ([The Paypers](https://thepaypers.com/expert-opinion/indonesia-2025-analysis-of-payments-and-ecommerce-trends--1273421)), and the QRIS side carries Bank Indonesia’s MDR rules. Shoppers can already pay this way in stores: QRIS payment through the DANA app has been available at more than 23,100 Indomaret branches in Indonesia since 1 October 2025 ([Selular.ID report on Indomaret](https://selular.id/2025/10/indomaret-resmi-terima-pembayaran-qris-via-aplikasi-dana/)).
- No MDR on small orders. Bank Indonesia’s adjusted QRIS policy removes the MDR on small orders for merchants of every size; DANA’s own fee and the provider’s fee are separate charges.
- Subscription billing. Some providers support recurring DANA payments, and support differs from one provider to another.

## Limitations to plan for before you accept DANA

Three things shape how a business runs DANA payments: how refunds work on each rail, what happens with unauthorised transactions, and the limits on payment amounts.

### Refunds depend on the rail and the provider

No single refund rule covers every payment taken through DANA; each value below holds for one provider or platform. DANA’s Mini Program refund API supports partial and full refunds ([DANA Mini Program, refund API](https://mini-program.dana.id/docs/miniprogram_dana/mpdev/v2_refund)). Xendit refunds DANA payments in full or in part within 30 days of the transaction ([Xendit, Available payment methods](https://docs.xendit.co/ewallet/payment-flows/void-and-refund)).

NICEPAY, by contrast, makes QRIS refunds only in full ([NICEPAY, QRIS settlement](https://docs.nicepay.co.id/penyelesaian-transaksi-pada-qris)), so a merchant taking QRIS through NICEPAY cannot return part of an order. [Unlimit](https://integration.unlimit.com/doc-guides/ci8k5zm86k3ny-card-methods) supports refunds for DANA payments.

The Mini Program adds two rules. Several refunds on one payment cannot together exceed the original amount, and a refund requested after the allowable refund window fails with REFUND\_WINDOW\_EXCEED.

No single duration applies to all QRIS refunds: it depends on transaction status, the payer’s and merchant’s payment service providers (PJPs), settlement and operating days ([Ezeelink’s guide on QRIS refund times](https://ezeelink.co.id/blog/berapa-lama-pengembalian-dana-qris/)). A refund to a linked credit card shows on the next statement, per the issuing bank ([Kontan](https://keuangan.kontan.co.id/news/dana-blokir-akun-terindikasi-fraud-siap-kembalikan-dana-transaksi-tak-dikenal)).

### Disputes and unauthorised transactions

After a verified report, DANA returns the funds or card limit to the issuing bank within 24 hours ([Kontan](https://keuangan.kontan.co.id/news/dana-blokir-akun-terindikasi-fraud-siap-kembalikan-dana-transaksi-tak-dikenal)). In September 2026, Bank Indonesia asked DANA to identify and verify transactions its users did not recognise and to follow up every consumer complaint ([IDXChannel’s report of 23 September 2026](https://www.rctiplus.com/news/detail/idxchannel/5478889/bi-instruksikan-dana-investigasi-transaksi-tidak-sah--perlindungan-konsumen-jadi-prioritas)). DANA announced it would refund all verified unauthorised transactions in line with applicable rules.

DANA’s Director of Communications, Olavina Harahap, said the company had handled the issue by blocking the DANA accounts indicated as misused, and DANA also coordinates with the card-issuing banks to help the process of a full refund in line with the value of the unrecognised transactions ([Kontan, September 2026](https://keuangan.kontan.co.id/news/dana-blokir-akun-terindikasi-fraud-siap-kembalikan-dana-transaksi-tak-dikenal)).

OJK logged 53,928 online-shopping fraud cases and IDR 988 billion in losses ([Insurance Business](https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/asia/news/cyber/indonesias-financial-services-authority-warns-of-growing-digital-scam-losses-554563.aspx)), so a disputed order needs the seller’s own record. A merchant dispute or chargeback process is not published by DANA, so dispute handling is set in the provider’s terms.

### Amount limits and account balances

Two limits shape the size of a DANA or QRIS payment. A QRIS transaction has a maximum of IDR 10 million under Bank Indonesia rules, as reported in October 2026 ([Radar Solo, October 2026](https://radarsolo.jawapos.com/ekonomi/2610010009/mulai-1-oktober-2026-transaksi-qris-hingga-rp100-ribu-bebas-mdr)), so an order above that amount needs another method.

On the wallet side, a basic DANA account can hold a balance of at most IDR 2 million, as reported in April 2026 ([IDN Times report](https://www.idntimes.com/business/finance/perbedaan-dana-premium-dan-biasa-c1c2-00-dlz74-g44919)). A customer whose basic account holds less than the order may need to top up or pay another way. Limits for DANA merchants themselves are not published.

## What DANA costs a business

On a QRIS payment, including one made from the DANA app, the merchant pays the QRIS merchant discount rate (MDR): it is borne by the merchant and must not be charged to the consumer ([Bank Indonesia, MDR QRIS](https://www.bi.go.id/id/publikasi/ruang-media/cerita-bi/Pages/mdr-qris.aspx)). Bank Indonesia’s adjusted policy took effect on 1 October 2026 and changed what an order costs.

### MDR rates since 1 October 2026

Before that date, small, medium and large merchants paid a QRIS MDR of 0.7%. Since then, their MDR is 0% on transactions up to IDR 100,000 and stays 0.7% above IDR 100,000, per Bank Indonesia’s MDR page (updated 19 October 2026). Micro-business (UMI) merchants stay at 0% up to IDR 500,000 and pay 0.3% above that.

An IDR 80,000 order cost a small merchant IDR 560 in MDR at 0.7% before the change and costs nothing now. A micro merchant’s IDR 600,000 order pays 0.3%, IDR 1,800, if the rate applies to the whole amount.

DANA’s own payment gateway lists its fees per successful transaction: IDR 2,500 for a virtual account, plus the bank’s fee set in the merchant’s agreement with the bank; 2.90% plus VAT for cards; from 1.50% plus VAT for e-wallets; and 0.7% including VAT for QRIS ([DANA, Payment Gateway](https://www.dana.id/business/payment-gateway), checked 29 October 2026).

### Provider fees on top

A business that takes DANA through a payment provider also pays that provider’s fees, and each provider sets its own rates and any settlement charge, so a quote that shows the MDR and each extra charge as a separate line gives the full cost of an order. DANA fees through Unlimit are quoted per business.

## DANA vs QRIS: how the two routes differ for a business

DANA’s merchant service accepts both routes, so the route alone does not decide the choice: a business picks its provider by the refund, recurring-payment and fee terms it offers.

DANA vs QRIS: how the two routes differ for a business

| Attribute | DANA | QRIS |
|---|---|---|
| Customer needs | A DANA account; pays with DANA balance, saved cards or dynamic QR codes | An app that supports the QRIS standard |
| Refunds | Partial or full on DANA’s Mini Program; Xendit: partial or full; supported by Unlimit for DANA and QRIS | Full only at NICEPAY; Unlimit supports them |
| Recurring payments | Subscription payments at NICEPAY; Airwallex: recurring payments under a stored consent; not available at Unlimit for DANA or QRIS | Not published by Bank Indonesia; not offered by Unlimit |
| Disputes and chargebacks | Not published by DANA | Not published |
| Reach | DANA’s user count is not published | 65.8 million users and 44.9 million merchants, June 2026 |

## How to accept DANA: a business checklist

Accepting DANA takes six steps, in this order:

- Choose a payment provider licensed by Bank Indonesia. Bank Indonesia Regulation 10 of 2025, in force from 31 March 2026, requires any party acting as a payment service provider to obtain a licence from Bank Indonesia and a non-bank applicant for activity bundle 1 to be a limited liability company ([Bank Indonesia, PBI 10/2025](https://www.bi.go.id/id/publikasi/peraturan/Pages/PBI_102025.aspx)). DANA appears among the digital wallets on Unlimit’s Indonesia coverage page. Unlimit works [through partners licensed by Bank Indonesia](https://www.unlimit.com/coverage/apac/indonesia/).
- Pass onboarding. A merchant on DANA’s Mini Program platform first becomes a partner of the wallet and submits business information for a Know Your Business (KYB) check ([DANA Mini Program, merchant onboarding](https://mini-program.dana.id/docs/miniprogram_dana/getting-started/merchant-on-boarding)); the payment capability is open to merchants with a valid business licence verified by the wallet. Micro businesses and warungs can register for QRIS with a national ID number (NIK) without being a legal entity ([Ezeelink, QRIS for UMKM](https://ezeelink.co.id/blog/qris-untuk-umkm/)).
- Add DANA to the checkout. MultiSafepay states that Alipay+ requires the Alipay+ partner logo and the logos of at least three supported wallets, DANA among them, on every payment interface ([MultiSafepay, Alipay+](https://docs.multisafepay.com/docs/alipay-plus)).
- Connect the provider’s payment status to the order system, so an order is fulfilled only after the provider’s callback.
- Confirm the settlement cycle, the refund route and every fee line with the provider.
- Test successful, failed and refunded payments end to end, then launch. Antom offers a test wallet app for end-to-end testing during integration, and DANA is among the payment methods it supports ([Antom, Test wallet](https://docs.antom.com/ac/ref/testwallet)).

## How Unlimit supports DANA in Indonesia

Unlimit is one of several DANA providers in Indonesia: DANA is live there and listed among the digital wallets on its [Indonesia coverage page](https://www.unlimit.com/coverage/apac/indonesia/), next to QRIS. Businesses that use Unlimit can offer DANA, QRIS and other local wallets through one provider.

A business incorporated outside Indonesia can accept DANA through one [Unlimit API integration](https://www.unlimit.com/payment-processing/), without a company, office or bank account in Indonesia, and during onboarding Unlimit tells each merchant which documents each method needs. Pricing is quoted per business.

## FAQ

**What is QRIS Antarnegara and does it matter for a business?**QRIS Antarnegara is the interconnection of Indonesia’s national QR code payment standard, QRIS, with other countries. Bank Indonesia’s page lists Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan among the countries where it is used for QRIS transactions. Whether DANA payments use it is not published, so a business plans for it only once its provider offers it.

**Which businesses count as micro for the QRIS MDR?**A micro business for the QRIS MDR is one with annual turnover of at most two billion rupiah under Government Regulation 7 of 2021, according to Ezeelink. The category decides which QRIS merchant discount rate applies to a merchant, so the category a business is registered in sets the rate its pricing has to cover.

**Does VAT apply to QRIS payments for a business?**VAT (PPN) on QRIS payments applies only to the merchant’s MDR, according to Ezeelink, and the consumer pays no extra VAT at the till. For micro merchants who pay no MDR, the VAT on the MDR can be IDR 0, so the VAT line on a provider’s invoice belongs in any comparison of costs.

**Can a business charge customers an extra fee for paying by QRIS?**A business cannot charge customers an extra admin fee for paying by QRIS: a Bank Indonesia statement of October 2024 prohibits merchants from passing such a fee on. Bank Indonesia’s sanctions are that a merchant may be blacklisted or its payment service provider may end cooperation with it, so the cost belongs in prices rather than in a checkout surcharge.

**Which other Indonesian wallets does Unlimit list alongside DANA?**Alongside DANA, Unlimit’s Indonesia coverage page lists OVO, LinkAja, ShopeePay, DOKU Wallet, PayPal and QRIS as digital wallets. A business choosing wallets for its checkout can compare that list with the wallets its customers use and with the methods it already accepts. Pricing is quoted per business.
